About Us

About the Symposium

Agriculture remains the backbone of Africa’s economy — employing over 60% of the workforce yet contributing only 15% to GDP. Intra-African trade accounts for just 15% of total trade, highlighting untapped potential. By connecting ideas, innovations, and industries, this symposium aims to harness Africa’s potential and drive prosperity.

This year’s edition spotlights Morocco as a strategic hub for North–South agricultural trade and a leader in phosphate-based fertilizers, essential to improving Africa’s soil health and ensuring food sustainability.

Join innovators, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and youth leaders driving solutions for sustainable agribusiness and intra-African trade. Together, we can turn potential into prosperity.

Our Core Goals

Our core goals align with continental priorities under AfCFTA and Agenda 2063, focusing on building resilient agricultural systems, inclusive trade networks, and sustainable pathways for economic growth.

This gathering isn’t just about discussion — it’s about direction. Our core goals outline the steps we must take to empower Africa’s youth, harness innovation, and unlock the continent’s agricultural and trade potential.

Purpose

To catalyze sustainable growth across the continent by promoting agricultural transformation, technological innovation, and regional integration. We aim to build systems that not only feed Africa but also empower its people and economies.

Vision

To position Africa as a global leader in sustainable agribusiness through technology, innovation, and youth-driven solutions. We envision a continent where agriculture and trade work hand in hand to drive prosperity, resilience, and inclusive development.

Why Now

Despite having 65% of the world’s uncultivated arable land and a growing youthful population, agriculture, the continent’s largest employer, that contributes only 15% to GDP. Intra-African trade remains low, limiting shared growth and opportunities.

Expected Impact

The AASU-Weldios University Symposium, in partnership with EPIK Leaders, is more than a gathering — it is a catalyst for Africa’s agricultural and economic transformation. By bringing together policymakers, innovators, researchers, entrepreneurs, and youth leaders, the symposium seeks to ignite tangible outcomes that drive the continent toward sustainable growth and prosperity.

Through shared learning, strategic partnerships, and policy engagement, the symposium is expected to:

Together for Africa’s Transformation

Africa’s transformation begins with collective action. Through this symposium, we unite visionaries, innovators, and leaders to reimagine agriculture and trade across the continent. Together, we can cultivate prosperity and build a sustainable future for generations to come.
